Upcycling a BART car in Downtown Hayward!

When a retired BART car was recently relocated to create a new Arthur Mac’s Big Snack restaurant in Hayward, the attention naturally focused on the feat itself. What few people considered was the planning, coordination, and technical expertise required to create a functional destination for a 76-foot railcar weighing more than 65,000 pounds.

While this project is unique, the principles behind its success are not: accurate site data, thoughtful planning, and coordination among multiple disciplines. From surveying and boundary analysis to utility planning, grading, drainage, permitting, and site design, the work that happens long before construction begins often determines whether a project moves forward smoothly or encounters costly surprises.

We’re proud that members of the OSS team contributed their expertise to this project, along with many others that help our clients turn their ambitious visions into reality.
